That addition became the heart of our home, filled with family and laughter, and it sparked my lifelong love for remodeling. As our family grew, we moved out past Upper Highland and Ridge Road to Beavercreek, chasing space and the chance to build from the ground up. The first thing Dad and I built was a barn, and we lived in it through a bitter-cold winter while we worked on the house. Side by side, we built our home from scratch. It wasn’t just a house — it was our future.

By 1987, Dad and I had taken those lessons into the field, framing new homes together and mastering the craft from the ground up. That experience gave us a deep understanding of how homes are built and what it takes to build them right.

In 1992, we turned that foundation into Highland Ridge Remodeling — a name inspired by the first home we built together. What began with the two of us has grown into a true family business. Today, I work alongside my son Ed and my brother-in-law John — three generations, still building with the same care and craftsmanship that Dad taught me with those little X’s.

And that’s how I see every project today. When my dad knelt beside me and marked those X’s, he wasn’t just showing me where the nails should go — he was guiding me, step by step, into something bigger. That’s what we do for homeowners now.
